Advice when adding to the wikiThis is a featured page

Since the wiki is a joint project where all members can add, change and delete pages, it's preferable if we all try to keep to something of the same style so that the site doesn't become too chaotic. The easiest way to do this, is to not change very much but just keep to what the text and pictures etc look like when you use the EasyEdit function. That means that most text will be "Normal, Arial, 12 pt and Auto colour". There are options for headings and subheadings, but sometimes using them affects other text as well in unexpected ways, and unfortunately the wetpaint interface isn't always working smoothly. EasyEdit isn't always "easy", unfortunately, but can be rather buggy and annoying. So, for headings (the page heading/title can't be modified) I suggest using bold all caps for paragraph headings, and just bold text for "lower" headings and table headings. I usually also make the "heading cells" in tables grey (I use the HEX value CCCCCC because it's discreet and easy to remember). This is of course how I do things and there's no saying you have to do it exactly the same. Just avoid changing fonts, font sizes and colours all over the pages as this makes the pages both less pleasing visually and very confusing.

Keep it simple - always good advice! :)

WHERE TO CREATE YOUR PAGE
To make sure the page ends up in the right place, make sure you are on the page of the wiki where you want your page to belong. That is, if you're adding a page about a new joint project, you should be on the page called "Group Projects". If you're adding your own portfolio, you should be on the page called "Creator Index". Once in position, click the "+Add page" link on the left hand side. You are asked to give the page a name and add some keywords and the option to use a template (see below). Once the page is created you can start adding content by clicking the EasyEdit button.

Avoid creating new pages at "top level" unless it really is a whole new category of material that you are adding. The site has been constructed so that the top level links will be relatively few and hopefully all other pages will be able to sort under one or other of those (they are Creator's Group, Group Projects, Creator Index, Creators Vows, Resources, Join the Chat, Notice Board, and Real Life Topics). Don't worry if your page ends up in the wrong place though - a moderator can fix it for you. Just send them a message!
Note: If you try adding a new page from your Profile it will end up at top level... so try to find the appropriate section instead.

TEMPLATES
When you create a new page, you can choose to use a template. Wetpaint has already created a selection, in which I find their Photo Gallery options to be especially useful for our purposes. I've also added a tutorials listing template but since we've already added most the pages that will have such a listing it may be of limited use. If you create a page that you feel can readily be used as a template for other pages, please let one of the moderators know and they can save the page as a template.

Current moderators are myself (Fire-Valkyrie), coffinpest, SweetCountryGirl and sylphie.

PHOTOS
When adding pictures (which is encouraged by the way! Pictures make pages more interesting and wetpaint has no limit on how many can be uploaded although they do advice that they're smaller than 500*400 pixels and below 500 kB) do take note of the little checkbox at the bottom of the upload page. If left checked, the image will be included in the site's Photo Gallery (reached through the link at the top of the page). Perhaps, if you upload something for your bio page or a free texture, you don't mean for it to end up in the photo collection. If so, you should uncheck that box.

NOTE! Keep in mind that images uploaded to the wiki are available for all internet users, not only our members. The ones in the Photo collection may also be displayed by the so called Droplets on the wetpaint site and on member sites. So make sure you only add images to the Photo collection that you do not mind sharing and which are not copyrighted by anyone else but yourself. (When posting images for inspirational purposes please do make an effort to find public domain images or use your own photos, or give credit to the website where you got it. If that website states you may not repost the image elsewhere, provide us with a link instead!)

LINKS
Links have a tendency to change colour somewhat haphazardly if the link is edited... The result is that most links on this site are blue or bluegreen while some are purple (and a few are other colours for a reason). Don't worry about it if your page gets links of different colours. It can be fixed by changing them all to blue, but for some reason it's harder to make them all that blue-green for example...

Anyway, every time you make a page, consider if there are other pages on this site which are relevant to the subject, and link to them too. Feel free to add links to your new page from other pages on the site, as well. It's easier to navigate through the links than by using the sometimes fitful navigation/page list on the left side of the screen.

MORE QUESTIONS?
Wetpaint themselves have a pretty exhaustive FAQ on how to make wiki pages and related questions :) Check it out here.
We also have our very own wiki FAQ page where you can post your questions.
